Green Focus
Don’t believe the hype! There are many products being touted as “green” when they are, in fact, the furthest thing from clean and sustainable. For instance, one may assume that bamboo flooring would be the greenest possible option, but if it is processed with formaldehyde to speed the curing process, not only is it poisonous to the planet but possibly your family as well. One might also assume carpet would be more eco friendly than hardwood flooring, but a well made wood floor will long outlast any carpet therefore eliminating additional manufacturing and greatly reducing the impact on landfills. So you see it is not as plain as it might seem.
As a large volume dealer of flooring materials and cabinetry, we at Kitchen and Flooring Emporium find ourselves in a position which demands environmental responsibility. Because we are the ones responsible for educating our customers on material selection, we have educated ourselves:
- We have aligned ourselves with manufacturers of Forest Stewardship Council certified products as well as manufacturers with Societe Generale de Surveillance (SGS) chain of custody certification.
- As a Stainmaster Flooring Center we promote recyclable Stainmaster nylon carpets and we install them over re-bond carpet cushion.
- We carry commercial products which qualify the end purchaser for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) points for rapidly renewable low emitting materials, and do business with factories certified ISO 9001 and ISO 14000 by the International Organization for Standardization.
We have been trained by these companies on the differences between their products and other unsustainable options and would like the chance to suggest environmentally responsible options for your project.
